Regea is a national tissue and stem cell center in Finland. It is part of the BioMediTech unit of the University of Tampere.

Regea provides services to hospitals and researchers in the fields of tissue banking and cell-based product manufacturing for clinical applications. Regea processes and supplies tissues (bone, tendon, amniotic membrane, pericardium, sclera and cornea) for clinical use. It also produces adipose tissue derived stem cell products for the treatment of bone defects, following GMP guidelines.

Relevant experience and activities

In addition to its active role in tissue banking in Finland, Regea actively participates in the development of the European good cell and tissue practices. In the EDQM working group Regea participates in the updating of the Guide to the Quality and Safety of Tissues and Cells for Human Application. In 2007-2009 Regea also participated in the EuroGTP –project (www.eurogtps.com) as the leader of the WP5 Ocular-specific European GTPs. Regea is a member of the European Eye Bank Association (EEBA) and the European Association of Tissue Banks (EATB). Additionally, Regea is part of the Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products and Biologicals Products Platform of the European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine (www.eatris.eu).
